Journeys along the Kundapura coast.
Beyond facts and figures, a place lives in its stories. Here are first-person journeys along the Kundapura coast, the kind of slow, sensory travel that the region rewards. (Illustrative travelogues to inspire your own trip.)
Maravanthe driveThe road between two waters
There is a moment on Maravanthe when you realise the sea is on your left and a river on your right, the road a thread between them. We stopped the car, bought tender coconuts, and watched the light go gold over the Souparnika while fishing boats drifted home. No photograph quite holds it.
Morning at the harbour
At dawn in Gangolli, the harbour is already loud, ice crunching, baskets of silver mackerel, the smell of salt and diesel. A cup of strong coffee at a roadside stall, and then a plate of fish fry that tasted of the sea itself.
Up to the Goddess
The climb to Kollur takes you from coconut groves into the green shadow of Kodachadri. A dip in the Souparnika, the rhythm of bells, and the cool stone of the shrine, the coast's pilgrim heart.
